At the same time as the payphones we are also working on creating a classic backyard pool. I can admit to having a very similar one in our backyard even though we picked one that is more brown and has a wood pattern along the side to blend better…a pool this size doesn't blend no matter what colors though :) It was nice to have it as reference while modelling and I hope it shows in the result.
I just hope the sides are thick enough to print well.

Payphones belonged to any small city picture back in the days and I really like working with this design. One of my earliest designs was a payphone booth and I've learnt so much since then so it is fun to make a new and improved version! I can't believe how crude my first model was and I was and I remember that it wasn't easy to create.
There will be two different models, one pay phone and one pay phone booth. When I first sent this model to Bernard at Miniprints it didn't have the perforated phone symbol on the sides. I said something like "that would have been cool to add but you will never be able to print those holes unfortunately". Bernard, as always up for the challenge, told me to add them and let him try. And he did it! I haven't seen it yet myself but it seems like the perforation actually printed!
Right now I am working on model 2 which is a pay phone booth. It's missing a phone cord and also maybe doors. But should there be doors or not? I'm not sure. They might just print badly or clutter the doorway and make it harder to pose people inside the booth. I think it was quite common that the doors were missing too. Second dilemma is if I should add windows so that Bernard can print in clear resin. However, they would need to be quite thin and maybe they will just make painting the booth so much more difficult? Thoughts are welcome :)
Ice-cream bike
Another summer themed design that brings back memories from the past is the ice-cream bike. We don't have these bikes here in Sweden but I can definitely relate since we have trucks with special jingles that make all kids jump up and shout "ice-cream!".
Bernard at Miniprints suggested that the hatch should perhaps be open to be "in the middle of a sale" but I haven't figured out what should be inside in that case. I will experiment a little and see what seems to work. There will also be a guy sitting on the bike and a kid holding a popsicle.
Lemonade stand
The lemonade stand an already finished design and is posted on the Miniprints website. We made three different designs to see what we thought worked best.
First design was designed according to how lemonade stands often are put together. You find an old wooden box or something to use as a table and then if you're lucky you can find some kind of table cloth that can make it look pretty. The wooden box is actually modeled after the box my kids have used as a lemonade stand.
However, I also had a picture of how a kids probably would want a lemonade stand to look like if they got to choose and I think that would be something like this:
Once done with this model I found it looking a bit too "straight" and actually much more boring than I imagined it. I tried a new version which was more made of bits and pieces and a bit uneven and I think that version turned out pretty nicely. No lemonade stand is complete without kids and Bernard had a specific pose in mind which I hope I managed to create, where one kid is pouring more lemonade and the youngest might either be a happy customer or perhaps a younger brother who is sampling the wares while waiting for customers.
